Program Abstract:
A panel of practitioners will discuss their experiences on an IPD team that recently completed a new public elementary school in Vacaville, CA. We will explore:
o What were the team’s original lean goals for the project?
o Which were implemented successfully, which were not, and why?
o What lessons were learned in the implementation?
There will be plenty of time to have attendees ask their questions of the Panel.
Value-Added Proposition (i.e., how it benefits attendees)
Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the use of lean practices during design, and which of these practices carried over into construction phase.
Agenda:
1) Introductions: Welcome to LCI – NorCal Chapter
2) Salad Chat: Discuss what you have learned or observed about lean since the last meeting.
3) Introductions and Share Salad Chat Highlights: A "lightning round" report-out of your table’s lessons learned in using lean concepts on projects and in your offices.
4) Featured Program
5) Questions: A “lightning round” to share your comments and ask questions about the featured program.

LCI Nor Cal Community of Practice
The Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. LCI has developed the Lean Project Delivery System© (LPDS), and the Last Planner® System of production control. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities. Lean production management has caused a revolution in manufacturing design, supply and assembly. Applied to construction, Lean changes the way work is done throughout the delivery process. Lean Construction extends from the objectives of a lean production system - maximize value and minimize waste - to specific techniques and applies them in a new project delivery process extending from project definition through design, supply and assembly.
The Northern California Community of Practice (CoP) of LCI provides local lean support to owners, architects and designers, engineers, contractors, specialty contractors, and suppliers. We invite owners and project delivery team members to meet together as a Community of Practice to learn, share, and develop a lean community in Northern California. As a regional forum for conversations among practitioners, the CoP will help create a new common sense for the AEC industry as LCI continues to build knowledge in design and construction.
